** UPDATE **

We would like to inform everyone that Loring Henderson (The LCS director) is hosting a public forum on Thursday, November 12, 2009 at 7:30 pm at the Boys and Girls Club at 1520 Haskell Avenue.

Also, if you have a petition with signatures, please turn those in at Slimmer Auto Service at 2030 East 23rd St.
These signed petitions need to be turned in by Saturday, November 14, 2009.

Finally, our cause remains on the Planning Commission agenda for November 16, 2009. We will need as many Lawrence citizens as possible to show up at City Hall and let our voices be heard! If you are committed to this cause, your presence is strongly encouraged in order to make a difference!

We continue our friendly fight against the City of Lawrence and the relocation of the Lawrence Community Shelter to East Lawrence.

Site Update

The site has been recently updated to include “pages” which link to pertinent information regarding our fight against the relocation of the Lawrence Community Shelter to East Lawrence.

CITIZENS AGAINST THE RELOCATION OF THE LAWRENCE COMMUNITY SHELTER

We are a group of East Lawrence citizens who are opposed to the relocation of the Lawrence Shelter to 2176 East 23^rd Street (formerly Don’s Steakhouse).

We are concerned for the safety of our schools, homes, and businesses. We would like to have an informative meeting to educate the citizens in the surrounding area regarding the plans to bring this element to our neighborhood. Several East Lawrence citizens who oppose the relocation of the Lawrence Community Shelter have attended previous city meetings. These meetings have provided important information which needs to be communicated with the residents and business owners in East Lawrence.

The address of 2176 East 23^rd Street was chosen as the new location for the Lawrence Community Shelter because the commissioners indicated the East Lawrence residents and business owners would have the least resistance to this relocation.

We would like to show the city commissioners that the East Lawrence residents and businesses are resisting this change for the relocation of the Lawrence Community Shelter.

The only way to successfully oppose the relocation of the Community Shelter is for the East Lawrence residents and business owners to stand up, give voice, and fight the change the City of Lawrence is trying to implement in our neighborhood. The opposing individuals need to show friendly force to indicate to the city commissioners that this change is not welcome in East Lawrence.
